San Diego County Regional Airport (SAN)
Our team provided initial baggage handling system planning and other services for the San Diego County Regional Airport in San Diego, California
This program is to develop the new $3B Terminal Building that replaces the existing Terminal 1 at San Diego Airport. The new 1.2+ million ft² facility will be capable of handling 8.6 million passengers annually. The new facility features a separate Smart Curb building, 30 aircraft gate positions, and new baggage handling and checked baggage inspection system. The design of the new terminal building will accommodate construction in two phases to maintain operations throughout the construction period.
Our initial responsibility is to provide BHS planning concept validation, provide recommended improvements, and 15% Design. Future responsibilities will include 30% bid design, bid support, trade contractor design-assist, and Construction Administration (CA) services encompassing site installation, integration, testing, and acquisition oversight for the baggage handling and security screening systems to support phased construction plan.
The baggage system includes baggage conveyance for a Smart Curb check-in facility, main terminal ticketing, baggage tunnel, 6 outbound makeup units, 2 transfer lines, 9 inbound claims, a checked baggage inspection Area (CBIS) with 7 Explosive Detection System (EDS) devices and the associated Checked Baggage Resolution Area (CBRA).
