Madison Square Garden
Our team provided security services the renovation of Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.
From 2006-2014, our team participated in the 820,000 ft² renovation of Madison Square Garden (MSG). MSG, also known as “The World’s Most Famous Arena”, is one of the most recognized buildings in New York City and across the globe.
Since it was originally constructed in 1968, this project constituted only the second major renovation to the facility. The renovation included the arena club sections, lower bowl, upper bowl, and skybox suites, creating an expanded and open footprint. The renovation also involved the creation of new technology infrastructure and back-of-house support space, providing new IT and security hubs and a central Command Center used to monitor and control the various critical infrastructure systems throughout the building.
As part of the project’s design team, we provided consulting and engineering services that included the development of physical, operational, and electronic security system program concepts and designs. One challenging aspect of the project was the requirement for MSG to remain fully operational during the New York Knicks and New York Rangers seasons. To accomplish this, all design work was phased, allowing the construction period of each phase to occur during a compressed three-month period between the NBA and NHL seasons. While this proved to be a difficult engineering and construction administration challenge for the design team, neither sports team was adversely affected by the renovation project.
MSG’s $1 billion renovations of “The Garden” were completed and unveiled to the public at the beginning of the 2013-2014 NBA season. The newly renovated facility provides a world-class entertainment experience with state-of-the-art concierge features, restaurants, and an increased maximum seating capacity of 19,812. As a result of its ongoing professional relationship with MSG, we were later awarded additional consulting work at MSG and at The Forum; a recently acquired multi-purpose arena located in Inglewood, CA that was purchased by the MSG Company in 2012.
