Completing the new Colgate University Case Library and Geyer Center For Information Technology is vital to achieving Colgate University’s goal of becoming a new model for liberal arts education.

This facility opened in 2007 and was the largest capital project in the University’s history.

Case Library features the latest information technology, including a three-story library automated storage and retrieval (LASR) system, which provides an innovative solution for the long-term housing of books with maximum storage space. A computer-controlled forklift can access bins of stored material in 30 feet high by 115 feet long vault that will hold about 500,000 books. The facility will provide new and enhanced study space, a 24-hour café, flexible workrooms, two classrooms, a large reading room, and a video conference center. As a dynamic learning commons, the library and technology center symbolizes Colgate’s commitment to the full range of tools and techniques required for accessing and acquiring knowledge in the 21st century.

The first floor will house government documents, audiovisual studios, and a conservation lab, among other things. The second floor is dominated by a rare book reading room and the archive but also houses faculty carrels, Library of Congress collections, and multimedia production rooms.

The University selected Introba (formerly Integral Group) to provide design peer review, commissioning, and project close-out services. In addition, Introba’s involvement included some design efforts to enhance MEP system operation, performance, and serviceability.
