The Sacred Heart High School Academic Arts Building is a high-performance classroom for music and arts targeting Net Zero Energy.

Introba (formerly Integral Group) provided both daylighting and lighting design for this building. Daylighting was optimized through various façade strategies for daylight, shading, and thermal comfort, maximizing daylight into the building to meet the illumination needs of art studios and classrooms. Using automated exterior Venetian louvers, the design gives precise control to the luminous indoor environment while eliminating unwanted solar gains, balancing the thermal environment, and minimizing energy consumption.

The skylights and clerestory window apertures provided an opportunity to link the daylighting and electric lighting design into a coherent strategy. During the day, daylighting fills the dance, band, choral and 2nd-floor hallways and several basement spaces lit by skylight pavers. On cloudy days and at night, indirect linear lights integrated into the wall below the clerestory uplight the sloped ceiling, providing a complimentary glow.

Elsewhere direct/indirect pendants provide visual balance and comfort. In the lower level hallways, decorative direct/indirect drum pendants uplight the ceiling to contribute to the luminous environment. On the 2nd floor, increased output recessed discs provide usable light for work areas between the clerestories.
