Waltzing Matilda Centre

Introba provided electrical, lighting design, mechanical, technology/ICT, and hydraulic services for the Waltzing Matilde Centre in Winton, QLD, Australia.

The outback town of Winton is home to Queensland’s iconic Waltzing Matilda Centre, honoring the great Australian poet Banjo Paterson’s Australian anthem, “Waltzing Matilda.”

The Introba (formerly Integral Group) specialist lighting design team replicated the night sky with the sporadic installation of downlights in varying sizes, as well as two constellations, Aquarius (Banjo’s star sign) in the foyer and the well-known and beloved Southern Cross in the reading room. The constellations are highlighted through red downlights, drawing the eye’s attention to the simulated night sky. The mechanical engineering for the site had to meet strict museum and art gallery standards due to the rare artifacts from both the center’s collections, traveling exhibits, and items on loan from other museums, art galleries, and private homes around the world.

Contributions by Introba also included a new supply authority connection, main switchboard, power distribution, general lighting and exit, and emergency lighting, along with information and communications technology (ICT) and security design, fire protection services, and hydraulic systems for water, drainage, and filtration.

The new center is an exciting step forward for tourism in the area, capturing the local history and merging it with iconic Australian memories in a building that celebrates Australia’s history.
