Sydney Airport Redevelopment and Upgrade
Introba has been involved in significant projects at Sydney Airport for many years. Our extensive experience and comprehensive approach make us a preferred engineering partner. Our collaboration has involved providing technical expertise and assisting in business case development, financial justification, and understanding the Airport's key drivers and plans.
The work includes the design upgrades of the emergency warning and intercommunication systems (EWIS) in Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, as well as coordinating and reviewing services related to smoke, exhaust, egress strategies, and compliance issues. We have also played a crucial role in major projects such as the Terminal 2 check-in hall expansion, Security Screening technology upgrades, and other associated works like bathroom upgrades and site-wide hydrant system reviews, aiming to enhance the overall airport experience and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Introba began working with Sydney Airport on the Masterplan for the Terminal 2 Check-in Hall expansion in 2016 and built on that with a feasibility study in 2017. We completed the detailed design for the project up to 80% before pausing the project due to COVID-19, but early enabler works for the expansion are in construction throughout 2023.
Tenancy Fit Out Works
We have, and continue to, collaborate with numerous architects and retail clients, providing services for expansion and refurbishment projects, working on retail fit-outs, luxury tenancy designs, and food court upgrades, and focusing on creating functional and visually appealing spaces within the Airport.
Bathroom Upgrades
We have designed and upgraded numerous bathrooms with complex considerations such as hydraulics, power distribution, fire safety, and asset life cycling. Staging and continuity of service are critical factors in airport projects, and our engineering teams develop detailed plans to ensure uninterrupted operations throughout the construction process.
Passenger Experience and Capacity Projects
We have been working on numerous projects enhancing passenger experience or airport capacity. Our involvement in bussing expansions and lounge designs supports the Airport's goals of improving operations and passenger flow. Introba has completed three bussing operations expansion projects in Terminal 1, with a fourth currently being designed.
Security Screening Upgrades
Security screening upgrades also help to speed up the screening process and meet federal government mandates for screening technologies. Introba has completed the feasibility study for all twelve Sydney Airports screening sites, including the design and overseeing the construction of both screening sites in Terminal 3, Regional Screening in Terminal 2, and the main screening zone in Terminal 1.
Baggage Systems and Back of House
Introba has been working closely with Sydney Airport and its contractors to assist in installing new baggage systems in existing areas, including clash detection of the proposed baggage system in the existing building and advice on sensible baggage system changes and any service modifications required to facilitate a successful project. Often this includes reviewing Navisworks models, point cloud scan, and Revit models and then developing services solutions that resolve clashes.
