Missouri Department of Natural Resources | Lewis and Clark State Office Building

This project was the first state office building in the US to be awarded a LEED Platinum rating by the USGBC.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources commissioned the design and construction of this dramatic, green office building on a bluff overlooking a river in Jefferson City. The design team’s mission was to create an office space that met strict comfort and environmental sustainability guidelines and used 50% less energy than a typical office building.

An exceptional collaboration between Introba (formerly Integral Group) and BNIM Architects resulted in many innovative mechanical system features that significantly reduced the building’s cooling and heating load. The building also uses natural ventilation and supplies air from a raised floor system to increase comfort and reduce energy use. The combined effects of an exceptional building envelope, extremely efficient central utility plant, and a low resistance airside system brought the HVAC system energy savings well beyond 55% compared to the ASHRAE base case model. The project was delivered on a fixed construction budget and achieved a LEED Platinum rating without a cost premium for energy efficient or sustainable features.
