Charles River Laboratories provides research models and laboratory animal support services, pre-clinical services, and clinical services to the biomedical market and focuses on improving human and animal health by becoming the premier global company advancing the search for drugs from discovery through discovery market approval.

Charles River Laboratories retained Introba (formerly Integral Group) to provide MEP design-build services for their Pre-clinical Research Services West Coast Operations. This new 350,000 ft² research and vivarium facility is custom-designed for optimal workflow, enabling flexible and more rapid study starts for discovery and development programs.

The facility contains 230,000 ft² of mixed species vivarium with animal holding rooms and anti-rooms. Additionally, 120,000 ft² are allocated to the research laboratory and support services. This facility has a central manifold supply, exhaust systems with heat reclaim, a 2,200-ton central cooling plant, and a 2,400 BHT high-pressure steam plant.

The team’s ability to collaborate with the architects, real estate developers, owners, and user groups, in such a complex project was essential in Charles River Laboratories’ decision to award this project to Introba.
