Robert Redford Conservancy Receives AIA | LA COTE, Merit Award & USGBC | LA Sustainable Innovation, Project of the Year

Pitzer College | Robert Redford Conservancy,

Built in 1931, the Robert Redford Conservancy occupies the renovated historical infirmary building near the Pitzer College campus that was one of the original Pomona College buildings. The Conservancy is a hub for sustainable research and discovery. The complex features laboratories as well as traditional indoor classrooms and open-air “outdoor classrooms.”  Transformed into a LEED Platinum Certified facility, the 12,000 sq. ft. project is also seeking Zero Net Energy operation and certification.

2018 AIA LOS ANGELES | COMMITTEE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT (COTE) – MERIT AWARD

AIA|LA annually recognizes projects that demonstrate achievement in sustainable design in three classifications: Honor, Merit and Citation.

This year’s COTE awards were juried by:

  • William Leddy, Founding Principal | Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects
  • Douglas E. Noble, Director, Master of Building Science and Discipline Head for Building Science | USC School of Architecture
  • Anne Schopf, Partner | Mahlum Architects

2018 USGBC LA | SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION AWARD – PROJECT OF THE YEAR AND ENERGY & ATMOSPHERE HONOR AWARDS 

The Annual Sustainable Innovation Awards recognize projects with a clear commitment to a sustainable built environment. Unlike standardized rating systems, the Sustainable Innovation Awards evaluate merit based upon sustainable strategies that demonstrate exemplary performance by going above and beyond credit achievement.

Awards are given in the following categories:

  • Materials
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Transportation
  • Social Equity
  • Resilience
  • Excellence in Water Conservation
  • Project of the Year  (All submissions with a Project of the Year Statement were considered for this “Best in Show” category.)
