Minnesota Street Project
This renovation project converted an existing single-story concrete and steel warehouse into a center for the arts in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco.
In response to San Francisco’s rising rent prices, the Minnesota Street Project provides an affordable home for the City’s contemporary art community — including two galleries and space for The Artist Studio Program.
The newly renovated warehouse includes 11 permanent galleries and studios, additional short-term rental spaces, a climate-controlled corner for museum shows, and a large central atrium featuring bleacher seating and free wi-fi for public use. The atrium is available for event rentals and is directly adjacent to the future restaurant space. Alta Restaurant opened to the public in the summer of 2017. The building also includes amenities for the artists, such as a shipping center, staff kitchen, and 24-hour security.
The renovation included seismic upgrades, new and upgraded mechanical systems, and the addition of a second story on a mezzanine level, with an open-air view of the central atrium below. Introba (formerly Integral Group) provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design services for this renovation, as well as lighting and audio-visual design and energy modeling.
