Gold Coast Airport Existing Terminal Refurbishment
Introba provided mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and fire protection services for the terminal redevelopment at Gold Coast Airport.
The Gold Coast Airport Existing Terminal Refurbishment and Operations Optimisation (ETROO) Project will transform the existing closed tenancy space into an open-plan public space, provide all areas of premises within the project boundary with enhanced disability access, enhancing passenger traffic flow and visibility post-security while providing a more comfortable environment for retail tenants. The project involves two phases: the early works and the main works. The early works focus on refurbishing existing tenancies, setting up new services, demolishing and reinstating kiosks, and identifying latent conditions in preparing the main works. The main works focused on converting tenancy spaces and amenities into public spaces, including demolishing existing structures and coordinating with architects for new layouts.
During the early works, we identified latent conditions in the existing building. We coordinated with the contractor to close out any live services concealed in the ceiling before converting them into full-height open-plan areas. We also identified remediation works to bring the existing terminal into compliance with the latest building codes and public transportation standards.
The main works phase significantly alters the departure hall, incorporating kiosks, small tenancy layouts, public amenities (toilets, drinking fountains), and a new passenger seating zone. The project team upgraded the electrical infrastructure to meet the increasing power demands, including new electrical floor boxes and charging stations. There was also modification to the fire protection systems, including smoke detection and sprinkler layouts, ensuring the safety of the redesigned space and air conditioning and ventilation upgrades to improve the passenger experience.
