Introba developed the sustainability framework for the renewal of the 77+ hector Bays West State Precinct in the centre of Sydney.

The environmental sustainability priorities facing governments and communities globally are brought into focus for this strategic urban renewal of Sydney Harbour.

The principles of good place-making, connection with Country and the interplay between harbour and foreshore were all key to identifying locally specific opportunities to achieve the world's best practice urban sustainability outcomes. The approach taken in the framework was to:

  • Identify the scope of environmental sustainability relevant to Bays West;

  • Establish the sustainability ambition for this location;

  • Identify sustainable development opportunities specific to the site.

The sustainability concepts are framed by an overarching commitment to Connection with the Country – the recognition and responsibility that this place was, is and will continue to be a place of cultural significance for Aboriginal Peoples. Four primary sustainability concepts with a deep connection to Place were put forward to be reflected in the urban design and place strategy: Restorative Biodiversity, Resilience, Mobility, and Water resources & systems.
