City of Boston Communications Systems Upgrade

City of Boston Communications Systems Upgrade

Boston, Massachusetts

City-of-Boston-Police-Dept

Introba provided radio consulting, engineering, and project management services for the upgrade of the current UHF radio systems for Police, Fire, and EMS. The upgraded systems consist of both P25 digital and analog radio communications.

Combined the agencies utilize over 60 radio sites, which are of varying age and condition. We assisted in site upgrade designs for electrical, HVAC, R56 grounding, and antenna systems. In addition to the above-ground radio sites, there are underground locations that are part of the Central Artery (roadway) and Transit Authority (subway). Each of the underground areas is serviced by a distributed antenna system (DAS). Introba also worked with the city on the design of a new microwave interconnect backbone with redundant capabilities that provide all site interconnection back to dispatch and the core. The systems share a common geo-redundant core which allowed for efficiency and cost savings. In addition to design efforts, we helped with the acceptance testing of the subsystems that make up these new radio networks, field testing as well as providing FCC regulatory support for re-licensing of current channels at new communication sites as well as the acquisition of new UHF frequencies to support interoperability with other public safety partners.

Introba also provided an independent analysis of backup dispatch operations and the feasibility of creating a redundant 911 Center for operations. Part of this included the replacement of current 911 Park phones with updated voice and data call boxes in over forty locations throughout the city.
