Vancouver International Airport

Introba provided mechanical engineering services for Vancouver International Airport’s Airside Operations Building in Richmond, BC, Canada.

Introba (formerly Integral Group) provided mechanical engineering services for this $38 million, 93,000 ft² building at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in Richmond, British Columbia. The team designed the integrated facility to house airfield maintenance vehicles, complete with vehicle maintenance facilities, a wash bay, a fuel bay, staff facilities, and offices. In addition, the building houses a seven-bay fire hall for the airfield fire trucks, complete with chemical loading facilities.

Located centrally in the airfield, the team designed the project with many sustainable features, including a geo-exchange system, chilled beams, airside heat recovery, solar hot water, radiant heating and cooling in vehicle bays, and rainwater harvesting to feed the toilets and truck wash. The building utilizes daylighting in all major spaces and incorporates photovoltaics and a wind turbine to generate electricity.

Built to post-disaster standards, the building will provide YVR with the ability to maintain operations in a post-disaster scenario, with all critical systems on a standby generator. The building is currently in operation.
