The Arbour Receives Future Project Award Sustainability Prize

MIPIM/The Architectural Review has revealed the winners of the Future Project Awards 2019 at their prize giving ceremony held in Cannes, France during March. The Future Project Awards recognize architectural excellence demonstrated in design- or construction-phase projects from all over the world. Sixteen categories were awarded this year, and winning projects were located across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, South America and North America.

Among the sixteen winners, The Arbour at George Brown College in Toronto, Canada was the recipient of the Sustainability prize. The project has been designed collaboratively by Moriyama & Teshima Architects and Acton Ostry Architects.

A new addition to the George Brown Campus in Toronto, Ontario, the Arbour is a state-of-the-art educational facility with innovation at the forefront of its design. The 10-storey structure will revolutionize Toronto’s building landscape and become the first Tall Wood Research Institute in the country, with materials sourced nationally. A net-zero energy target has been set by George Brown College in their commitment to sustainability. The building will serve as an educational hub—housing research, teaching and learning—as well as a child care facility to accommodate the rapidly growing local community.

The project was also previously awarded the Canadian Architect Award of Excellence, and was featured in our Insight: Wood You Believe It? Advancements in Mass Timber Construction.
